The Classes

Class 1: Why are you pitching/presenting?

In pitching, in presenting everything begins with “Why?”. There is no greater creative question than “Why?”. So we start here too.  And by exploring first what’s motivating you right now, using this truth to discover your professional voice faster, you will create a solid foundation to build any presentation or pitch on. Any lurking or naturally occurring nerves or fears will be faced and managed safely. We don’t eliminate our nerves but we do learn to dance with them.

What you will get from this 3-hour class

  1. Fresh or renewed confidence about your presentation and pitch skills
  2. Practical experience by doing three presentations with coaching and group feedback
  3. A simple powerful tool to: create; structure; and deliver any pitch or presentation
Class 2: How to get and hold any audience

Class 1 gets you started as a presenter sharing a universal structure tool INTRO. Here our focus shifts more towards your audience, to your buyers.  Attention spans are dropping fast. On a pitch or presentation, unless you can quickly get my attention, hold it and direct it you will be instantly forgotten. So this workshop takes you towards the most important people on any pitch, your audience using another simple but powerful comms tool, MASK.

What you will get from this 3-hour class

  1. How to grab our attention, hold it and direct it using MASK
  2. What your audience want and expect on a pitch or presentation
  3. Being authentic and memorable just by being you
Class 3: Money talks

Discussing money may feel almost distasteful. So your fees appear in slide 39 of 40.  Your pitch is all sunny side up and no risks of working with you are presented. Wrong on both counts. This class will show why feeling defensive about your costs is a mistake and how to safely present the risks of doing biz with you. Most importantly you will learn how to share your value proposition with a client or prospect.

What you will get from this 3-hour class

  1. How to comfortably talk about your fees and value proposition
  2. What the risks of hiring or retaining you might look like from the buyers side of the table
  3. Using a case study approach to share your value to us and how risk is mitigated
Class 4: Building your brand, one pitch at a time

The power of a brand lies essentially in recognition and your emotional response to it. That’s why the super global brands like, Nike and Adidas sponsor big sports events. You may not have bought their trainers yet but when you are ready to buy they are an option because you know they exist and what they stand for. We are all brands now. We have personal online marketing via Instagram and Facebook and professional profiles on LinkedIn are an essential part of commercial life for many. Pitches are won and lost by how you bring your brand values alive. So here we dive deep into what lies behind a very special brand. Yours.

What you will get from this 3-hour class

  1. A marketeers understanding of what a brand is
  2. Time to explore what your personal and commercial brand stands for
  3. Practical experience of bringing alive the advantages of your brand on a pitch
Class 5: I could drink a case of you

Buyers want and need evidence of precisely what sets your offering apart, of what your value proposition is, of what makes you funky or special. Buyers take most of the risk in a pitch process so the easier you make it to see and feel what it would be like working with you the stronger your win chances become. Great case studies are surprising simple to construct. And when done well can win the pitch for you on their own.

What you will get from this 3-hour class:

  1. What buyers are looking for in your case studies
  2. Real life case studies examples to examine and work with
  3. Three great tools to help you find your best case studies and to bring them to life

Class 6: Nice work if you can get it : Winning breakthrough pitches part 1

We all face a pitch when we aim for something we haven’t done before but know we can. Career and life defining moments that if handled right will transform lives. Wining also brings a terrific turbo boost to your self-esteem and that wonderful feeling that anything is possible. As a pitch coach I live for these moments too for my business and for yours. By definition you are asking us to believe that you have the potential to do the work; deliver to a new scale; or value of project you can’t evidence from your track record. Risk is the wide ravine you must cross to reach these prizes.

This workshop will go deep into the planning of  what it takes to win the best work, the best clients and breakthrough to the next level. We need six hours for this type of pitch so this workshop is run in two overlapping parts where you will be working exclusively on one of those amazing breakthrough accounts you want to win. Part 1 covers:

  1. How will you get a client to believe you can do something you have never done before?
  2. How to embrace risk in your pitch strategy
  3. The strategic planning, thinking and new levels of pitch commitment you will need to win
Class 7: Nice work if you can get it: Winning breakthrough pitches part 2

Everything about you needs to be exceptional in breakthrough pitching. We stay with the incumbent unless you can disturb or excite us enough into change. So in Part 2 we go deeper into what “exceptional” might look and feel like from your client’s perspective. It will require everyone in your pitch team to make an imaginative leap. To behave in new ways. To give more. To risk more. You have to get us to believe that you possess the potential, the resources and the abilities to do something you have never done before. Here we examine if you are ready to win.

This workshop will explore what it takes to win the best work, the best clients and breakthrough to the next level. In part one you built your breakthrough plan now we get to the really exciting bit: Part 2 covers:

Vibe: intense; fun; works right out of the box, practical learning that’s transformative now. Dives deep into beliefs and theories about communication with materials and web links to grow your knowledge about pitching after the workshop at your own pace and learning style.

Consists of three 50-minute sessions with two 10-minute coffee/digital hive breaks ending with a ten-minute summing up. You leave with the groundwork for your next breakthrough pitch done.

Class 8: Four Magic Numbers

When your pitch is over and all your hard work done you will leave behind one dominant feeling or reaction to what you have just presented. What was your number one aim in your pitch? Did you have one? Yes, you wanted to win but what emotional reaction did you want us to have to you and your brand? What did you want the first thing the key buyer to say to the rest of the pitch team the moment you the door closed behind you?

Every pitch has start, a middle and an end. There’s a universal three at play in all communication.  Research also shows that most of us can hold up to five pieces of information in our short term memory. Showing both sides of the coin reveals twice as much. Simply pairing or contrasting ideas doubles their power. You have to be on page one of a Google search. Who ever looks at page 2? Understanding how and why numbers are magickal will forever alter how you create, structure and deliver every pitch your ever do afterwards.

What you will get from this 3-hour class

  1. The science behind numbers, timing, attention and memory
  2. How magick numbers help you to create, structure a pitch that has us in your spell
  3. Present, fearlessly without notes using a simple memory technique
Class 9: It pays to increase your Word Power

The French talk about “Le mot juste.” the word or phrase that is exactly right in a particular situation. Discovering, defining and then crafting your key messages in vivid and memorable language is an essential part of pitch craft. We live in an age of instant swipe right or left of instant decisions and dropping attention spans. But the good news is you can capture and hold our attention by using: similes; analogies; and metaphors that emotionally and commercially connect to your audience

What you will get from this 3-hour class:

  1. Learn how to craft gripping key messages that resonate with your buyers
  2. Find out how to tap into the zeitgeist so your language is fresh and more memorable
  3. Explore the simple English writing techniques journalists and bloggers use everyday to get your attention
Class 10: Stack Your Deck

We have all endured death by PowerPoint, with the most memorable message buried in slide 38, not an image anywhere in sight, just endless words  repeated robotically. We read eight times faster than you speak. And we are the most sophisticated visual generation in history. Forty second TV adverts like mini Hollywood movies. Raised on YouTube, BBC’s iPlayer and smartphones we switch off just at the mention of PowerPoint. But used professionally a great, visually rich PowerPoint or Keynote sell your messages and bring your brand alive without words. Used well, like it is on the TV news it can bring a visual richness and recognition that words alone don’t.

What you will get from this 3-hour class

  1. How to create what pitch professionals call a deck- a dozen or so slides that contain all the key messages of your pitch in a visually exciting, clearly branded way
  2. The art of placing your buyers brand, needs and wants centre stage in every slide
  3. How to frame every slide so it adds to and takes your story forward to “Yes!”
